Description: Very rare Franz Bergman (1861-1936) Viennese gilt bronze couple of a cloven hoofed Satyr holding out a bunch of grapes on the vine to a reclining nymph or bacchante. The figures have been cleverly designed to interlock when pushed together in an erotic pose (photo 3) with the Satyr’s left hand resting on the nymph’s thigh. The underside of the base of both figures is impressed with the number ‘2’ and the base of the Satyr is signed ‘N.Greb’ (short for Namgreb), the reverse spelling of Bergman which was used on his more risqué bronzes. In good antique condition with some surface wear to the gilding. The tallest figure measures 9.5 cm and the combined weight is 399 grams.
