Description: Rare, vintage "Chiot Et Ballon Bleu" or Puppy with Ball, DAUM handmade Pate de Verre signed crystal figurine with original box! This darling puppy measures 2" in height, 3 1/2" in length and 1 3/4" in width and is a gorgeous hue of amber and deep blue/purple. Even though the French label says the ball is "bleu" - it is more of a purple hue (please see pictures). It weighs 6.6 ounces. The signature "Daum France" is incised on the bottom of the sculpture (see photos #9,10). It comes in the original box and is in mint condition. FREE DOMESTIC SHIPPING! "Pate de Verre" is a French term meaning "glass paste" and refers to a casting technique for making objects by grinding glass into a fine powder, adding a binder to create a paste, and adding a fluxing medium to facilitate melting. The paste is brushed or tamped into a mold, dried and fused by firing. While glass pastes have been used since ancient Egyptian times by glassmakers, pate de verre, as it is known in modern times, came out of late 19th century France and was brought into vogue then and is still highly popular today. The Daum glassworks in Nancy, France was created in 1892 by Auguste Daum and run by his younger brother Antonin. Styles evolved with each new generation of the Daum family, through Art Deco to white crystal (classic 1950s - 1970s wedding gifts). Every single Daum piece has its own individuality, as it is entirely hand made.
