It was founded by W. D. Boyce, publisher of the Chicago Ledger and the Saturday Blade and one of the founders of the BSA. In 1922 the Lone Scouts announced they would no longer accept applications "from members of the negro race" and the mast head of The Lone Scout changed from "A Real Boys Magazine" to "The White Boys' Magazine."
