Description: This sizeable and heavyweight copper teapot/jug stands approximately 12 ½” in height (including spout) and 5” in width (at its widest point). It is an impressive vessel that features a monk’s hat spout, a shape common among Mongolian or Tibetan pitchers, ewers and teapots. The spout opening is enclosed with a perforated metal cover that has five small vent holes in the center and a crescent-shaped hole near the rim from which the liquid is poured. This figural pitcher has a tapered shape with four distinct segments separated by wide metal bands. A shapely handle is attached to the body with two hinges that allows the handle to swivel in either direction. According to my research this teapot is called a ‘dombo’ in Mongolian culture. The dombo is part of Mongolian traditional tableware used to serve milk tea. Unique in form, the spout of the pot was shaped for ease of pouring the tea into a bowl. Additionally, the tea could be kept warm or reheated in the pot on a fire source, thus the soot on the bottom of this pot. This antique Mongolian dombo is in good condition despite some dings/dents, discoloration and overall wear. It is a rare and museum quality teapot that has a wonderful patina and has been well-preserved.
