Description: Scarcely found with provenance and in this condition after over 100 years, this is a completely original, intact and untouched British helmet worn on the Western Front during the Great War. Inside the helmet, the soldier’s initials are written along with “Ghent” a town/military zone in Belgium encompassing the famous East and West Flanders, occupied by the Germans in 1914 and later Liberated by the British. Fantastic candidate for further research. The helmet has a very attractive patina showing heavy use but remains free of major dents/unsightly damage. - Fully intact liner and chinstrap -Soldier’s initials “CS” and “Ghent” campaign location written on chinstrap -Unique early Brodie helmet shape has slight curve to the brim, which widens at the rear (similar to the later 1944 pattern “Turtle” helmet) -Heat Stamp Stamp “FS 4” indicates manufacture by Thomas Firth and Sons, Sheffield England 1915-1918 -Traces of multi colored camouflage paint This one was there and saw it all.
