RARE VINTAGE SHELLEY CHINA ENGLAND GREEN GOLD ENCRUSTED CHERUBS DINNER PLATE

Description: Very rare large dinner or charger plates made by Shelley China of England, circa 1925-40. These plates are unmarked but I did a lot of research and finally discovered who their maker is when I found the pattern on Replacements, Ltd. They measure 10 1/2" in diameter and are quite stunning with a center white medallion surrounded by a thin gold band, then an outer circle of sea green paint, followed by a thick gold encrusted band 1 1/2" wide on the flange.The band features a repeating motif of 3 cherubs, birds and elaborate scrollwork and is very unique. These plates are not perfect, as each of them has some wear to the green paint, some more than others. I show different examples in the photos. But they have no chips or cracks in the china and no visible wear to the gold encrusting; and they have only minor utensil scratching indicating very little use. It does seem that this wear to the green was an issue with these plates as the photo on Replacements Ltd. shows some wear as well (these plates are not available there). One of the plates also has some errant green paint under the glaze on the back (last photo). But if you use them as large dinner plates with food on them or as chargers with only the gold encrusting on display, the green wear will not be seen. Every major china manufacturer of the time, from Limoges, Germany, England, even Pickard of the US, had a green and gold encrusted pattern like this and they will be easy to mix and match. This is the only such pattern by Shelley as far as I could tell. I have 12 of these plates available and am selling them individually so you can buy as many as you like.
