Description: Baron Samedi is the guardian of the cemeteries in Haitian Voodoo. This flag is enormous! 43"x 36"!!!Renown flag maker George Valrise (signed over the cap area) has depicted Baron in the cemetery at a tomb with a cross, heads, a dagger, candles and a libation bottle. Valrise has made Baron a sort of modern day Hip dresser with a side ways cap and sunglasses!PLEASE NOTICE: look at the last few images by the disembodied head where you will see s missing large flat translucent sequin. But if you look at the entire translucent background you will notice they are not perfectly overlaid like fish scales and in fact there is an evident attempt to make due. This flag dates back to the Haitian trade embargo of 1991-94. The UN and the OAS attempted to force the Haitian military to reinstate the deposed Preside Aristide who was sent into exile. The embargo hurt only the poor and made things very difficult especially to flag artist that depended on imported sequins and beads. While the visual effect is quite striking with a smoky background, there is history even in that choice for Valrise.
