Description: Rembrandt - Etching - Artist's Mother with her Hand on her Chest: Small Bust The plate size was 3-5/8" x 2-1/2", and the impression was printed on Ingres d'Arches off-white laid paper (as indicated by the watermark) measuring 12-7/8" x 9-3/4". The print was professionally matted and framed in an elaborate bronze-tone frame measuring 24-3/4" high x 24-1/4" wide, and is ready to hang. During his lifetime, Rembrandt created more than 300 etchings, engravings and drypoints. After his death in 1669, most records suggest that only 82 of his 300-plus copper plates had not been previously cancelled or destroyed. Impressions of eight of these plates were printed between 1994 & 2004, and it has been certified that only 2500 impressions were printed from each plate (called the 'Millennium' edition). The impression offered for sale in this auction is one of that edition.
