Description: Here is a chance to own and use a real piece of Western US history. This restored Hotpoint was a very advanced piece of kitchen equipment when it was patented in 1916. This particular stove came from the chateau mansion of Charles W. Clark, the son of Copper King and US Senator William F. Clark (some say the greatest of the Copper Kings, some say the most nefarious). It was in the world famous copper rush city of Butte, Montana. The mansion (see photo) was and is at the corner of Broadway and Washington Streets in historic uptown Butte. It is just two blocks from the famous mansion of the senior Clark – the famous Copper King Mansion. This mansion has 26 rooms and is on the national register of historic places. The register tells us that "Yale-educated Charles spared no expense on details: exquisite stained glass, hand-painted wallpaper, a stately curved stairway, and the use of many kinds of rare woods reveal the work of talented craftsmen. The building is owned by the city and county of Butte-Silver Bow." Charles also spared no expense in the kitchen. This stove was placed there and sat for the life of the mansion. It was finally removed when the building became an art museum (The Arts Chateau). At that time the appliances were removed. William Clark's nearby mansion has an identical stove (with black accents) that is still in place today. We lovingly restored this stove several decades ago, both electrically and cosmetically. It has been in our kitchen in Missoula, Montana since. Features:1. All electric, even though from a very early period (patent 1916) 2. 6 burners of various sizes including a Dutch Oven for soups, stews and liquid cooking. 3. 2 ovens with all features including broil, and a 3rd 'warming oven.’ 4. An arching hood above the burners with a cookware/utensil shelf.5. Oven interiors are original blue with triple racks. 6. A beautiful temperature adjuster is on the side of each oven. Dial in your temperature.7. 2 plug-ins for a patented timer option, to shut off the ovens at your chosen time.8. Glass knobs and beautiful antique control knobs (removed for safekeeping).9 Chrome and nickel edging and surrounds (all restored to brilliance).10. Slide out drip tray below the burners for ease of cleaning. 11. Built in light to illuminate the cooktop. This model stove is impossible to find, even ignoring its unique and important history. Large stoves of other brands often sell for $15,000 and up. (See examples on web). This stove was used as a built in, sitting on a cabinet. That is how we use it and also the way the Clark kitchen used it. However, the legs for this oven are the same ones used in the normal-sized family stoves of those decades and are easy to obtain should you want to place it as free standing. One of the door logos is perfect, the other suffered a ding over the decades. We liked it and left it, but a vintage replacement door can be found since the doors are identical with lesser model stoves that were common. (See photo). How rare and special is this stove? I found an identical model featured in a Pinterest post. An inquirer sent it to me. Take a look at this interesting listing, last photo in my collection.Imagine all the meals prepared with this stove in that great mansion, almost certainly by a talented chef who cooked for the rich and famous of Butte and the nation at this special time in history. We have loved it, but are retired now. It is time to pass this stove on to someone else. This restored and functioning range is price competitively and costs the same as a modern 60" range from the major brands.
