RIP TAYLOR - AUTOGRAPH NOTE SIGNED - HFSID 270389 RIP TAYLOR Taylor writes note to Phyllis Diller - see you in St. Louis- Autograph Note Signed: "Rip", 1 page, 5x8. No place, but probably Lahaska, Pennsylvania, no date. Written on verso of a promotion for the Peddlers Village Dinner Theatre in Lahaska to comedienne and actress Phyllis Diller. Begins: "Phyllis". In full: "Cute club Allentown Pa next See you in St Louis xx". Both Diller and Taylor are listed as performing at the theatre; Diller on May 18 and May 19 and Taylor from June 14-June 17. Earlier in his career, Taylor had been a regular on The Beautiful Phyllis Diller Show (1968). RIP TAYLOR (1934-2019), a zany actor and comedian who is known as the "King of Confetti" and "Prince of Pandemonium", has headlined in Las Vegas, appeared in plays and musicals, starred in feature and made-for-television films and appeared on television talk shows, game shows, series and variety shows, including Ed Sullivan, Dean Martin, Rowan & Martin's Laugh In and Saturday Night Live. Taylor, who made his film debut in 1964 in I'd Rather Be Rich, has appeared in feature films including The Gong Show Movie (1980), Home Alone 2: Lost in New York (1992), Wayne's World 2 (1993), Indecent Proposal (1993), Private Obsession (1994) and Alex and Emma (2003). His television credits include made-for-TV movies such as The Gossip Columnist (1979), and several TV series, including The Beautiful Phyllis Diller Show (1968), The $1.98 Beauty Show (1978-1980) and Down to Earth (1984-1990). Taylor received an Emmy Award nomination in 1994 for his role as Uncle Fester in the animated TV series, The Addams Family. Comedienne PHYLLIS DILLER (1917-2012), known for her outrageous appearance, zany outfits, distinctive laugh and a stand-up act that featured frequent references to her fictional husband, "Fang", and zingers about her sex appeal and numerous plastic surgeries, got her big break in March 1955 (at age 37), when she debuted at San Francisco's Purple Onion club. A subsequent appearance on The Tonight Show hosted by Jack Paar launched her national career, which got a big boost after Bob Hope saw Diller in a Washington, D.C. club. A favorite of the comedian, Diller would appear in three of Hope's films and 23 of his TV specials. Diller, who recorded her first comedy record album in 1959, took her groundbreaking "funny hausfrau" act to nightclubs and television variety shows and specials and she also appeared on the big screen. Her feature film credits include Splendor in the Grass (1961), The Fat Spy (1966), Boy, Did I Get a Wrong Number! (1966), The Sunshine Boys (1975) and The Silence of the Hams (1994), and she provided the voice of the Queen in A Bug's Life (1998). By 2000, the comedienne, who had trained as a concert pianist before her marriage (1939-1965) to Sherwood Anderson Diller, had appeared as a piano soloist with 100 symphony orchestras across the U.S. Despite retiring from nightclub/stage tours in May 2002 at the age of 84, Diller continued to make films (Motorcross Kids, 2004; Forget About It, 2005) and occasionally appear on TV programs, including two episodes of 7th Heaven (2002, 2003) and a guest shot on The Wayne Brady Show (2004). Slightly creased with fold, vertical fold at the "R" of Rip. Fine condition. See more material from these signers: RIP TAYLOR See more listings in our ACTORS & ACTRESSES (13,292) category.
