Description: Robert Andrew Parker ( 1927-2023) Watercolor, 14.25 in x 18.25 in, 17.50 in x 21.50 in framed. In very fine condition, no visible damage, colors bright. Not examined out of frame. Signed on left edge by the artist. Parker attended the school of the Art Institute of Chicago from 1948 until 1952 and worked during the following months at the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in Maine and at Stanley William Hayter's Atelier 17 in New York. Since his first solo show in 1954, Parker has exhibited extensively, and his credits include set designs for opera and film as well as book illustrations. In his watercolors Parker combines areas of pure color with design conceived in terms of silhouette and shape. His works are in collections at the Smithsonian, the Whitney, the Art Institute of Chicago and many others as well as private collections. As you can see from the auction records, his work regularly sold at a higher price than I have this listed. He has also been in the auctions at the coveted 1st tier houses Sotheby's and Christies. This is one of many works of art purchased from the estate of the 2 time Emmy winning actor Edward K Herrmann ( Gilmore Girls, The Lost Boys, Overboard, The Practice etc.) who was a friend of the artist. Several of the pieces I have were commissioned by Herrmann to commemorate a character he had played in a movie or in the theater, as this watercolor as well as the others I have listed were. Parker's watercolors add a dreamy, otherworldly feel to subjects usually portrayed in stark realism. This is a great opportunity to own a work by a very talented and well respected listed artist, which has a very interesting and unusual provenance. Please don't hesitate to ask questions, Im happy to help.
