Description: Graves, Robert. Good-Bye to All That. London: Jonathan Cape, 1929. Offered for sale is a copy of Robert Graves's classic memoir--a landmark of twentieth-century life-writing--retaining its scarce dust jacket--in the first edition, the first printing, of 1929.* This copy is in very good condition. But for a few pencilings (from a previous seller) to the endpapers, the interior is free of annotations, underscores, &c. The corners remain quite sharp; the binding and hinges are firm. The fore-edge is very modestly foxed. The jacket, which has been trimmed (as was then the fashion) but not price-clipped, suffered some loss at the rear panel; it has been patched and reinforced there and at the upper extremities--apparently by a professional hand. The base of the spine-panel is abraded. Jackets wrapping first-edition copies of Graves's memoir--among (IMO) the greatest designs of the era--are notoriously fragile; they tend to grow brittle, chip, and tear. Notwithstanding its flaws, this jacket, which has been secured in a Mylar protector, remains pliant. The book will be posted in a box--and for *FREE*--by USPS Priority Mail. Buyers abroad will be served by eBay's International Shipping Program. *N.B., This is later- (probably second-) state copy, from which Sassoon's verses have been redacted.
