This was the first time on the road for Gary and Allen since surviving the plane crash that killed many of their Skynyrd friends and bandmates just two years prior. As one can imagine, the two longtime friends were energized to be back on stage once again. Sadly, Collins himself would die prematurely (of pneumonia) 10 years later, in 1990. This dynamic image is a beautiful and lasting tribute to Collins and his appeal, as well as the power of the two beloved bands he co-founded.
