Description: HMS IMPLACABLE HMS Implacable was the name ship of her class of aircraft carrier. Launched on 10 December 1942, she was commissioned on 28 August 1944. She was initially assigned to the Home Fleet and attacked targets in Norway for the rest of the year. She was then assigned to the British Pacific Fleet where she attacked the Japanese naval base at Truk and targets in Japan itself in 1945. She was used to repatriate liberated Allied PoWs and soldiers after the Japanese surrender, for the rest of the year. Implacable returned home in 1946 and became the Home Fleet's deck-landing training carrier, a role that lasted until 1950 when she briefly served as the flagship of the Home Fleet. She was placed in reserve later in 1950 and converted into a training ship in 1952, serving as flagship of the Home Fleet Training Squadron. She was considered for a major modernisation in 1951–52, but this was rejected as too expensive and time-consuming. Implacable was decommissioned in 1954 and scrapped the following year. 6 x 4 ins PHOTO HIGH QUALITY, GLOSS, PRINTING PAPER PLEASE NOTE - THIS IS A QUALITY MODERN COPY IN PRISTINE CONDITION Normal 0 false false false EN-GB X-NONE X-NONE
