Description: This Royal Vienna-style portrait plate was created in Austria at the turn of the 19th century. The stunning garden scene portrait decal is titled "Beauty Directed by Prudence, Wreathed by Perfection." This scene in transfer was copied from the original work of Angelica Kauffmann, a Swiss Neoclassical painter, 1741-1807, who painted in the Rococo style and whose works have been widely reproduced. She was a child prodigy and was well-known by the age of 11 for her artistic and musical talents. Kauffman's work is surrounded by a delicate scalloped border with hand-painted floral details. This cabinet plate is decorated in crimson, cream, and forest green sections with floral cartouches. It also possesses additional elaborate gold gilding over the colored bands, which includes stippling and a magnificent, jeweled border. Moreover, the gilt overlay pattern that frames Kauffmann's portrait at the center of the plate is a feature that showcases the opulence and luxury of the period. Measures 8.5 inches in diameter. Excellent condition with no chips, cracks, or crazing. NO gilt trim or jewel losses. Marked with a Royal Vienna-type shield or "beehive" mark with a dot beneath, which denotes production by Josef Rield. The blue overglaze mark, c.1890-1918, is believed to be that of Josef Riedl, a decorating studio in Giesshubel, Bohemia (now known as Struzna, Czechia). This Royal Vienna-style portrait plate is an opportunity to own a slice of artistic heritage. It is an invitation to celebrate the legacy of Angelica Kauffmann and the timeless allure of Neoclassical art. Please reach out with any questions or reasonable offers.
