It’s function is to extract the coffee from the machine. To extend the life your brew group, I recommend the following tips: Daily: Rinse the Brew Group and dispensing head at the end of each day. If your machine has the pre-ground coffee option, press the pre-ground coffee button, do not insert any coffee in the chamber and press the tall coffee button. Weekly: Use the cleaning brush provided with your machine to remove any coffee residue that you see. Then wash the brew group with warm water. Do not soak it in water when cleaning. Never put the brew group in the dishwasher. Monthly: Remove any coffee residue and apply an even coat of lubricant to the o-rings, piston shaft, the tracks on either side of the filter screen and the water inlet coupling with a cotton swab. Lubricate all moving parts. Make sure that the funnel is completely dry before re-inserting the group into the machine. If your brew group is over 15000 coffees and shows some of the above problems, I recommend replacing it with a new one.
