Unfortunately the only way to lighten a darker shade is to apply a lightener to the hair first, then reapply the shade that you would like that is lighter than the darker shade you first applied. So when making decisions on what shade to get, be sure that you consider how dark it may appear on your hair. How can I avoid getting an orange hue to my hair? Many customers do not realize that if you first choose a shade that has red or yellow, when you reapply color to your hair next, you should take that undertone into consideration and choose a shade with a similar tone. For instance, if you go with the number 14 (yellow base) and then the next time you color you apply number 30 (red base), you will not lighten the hair because the 14 is darker than 30, but you will change the tone of the hair because you added a red tone to the hair. Yellow + Red = orange. Some may like that look, but if that is not what you want, then you should be mindful when picking out your colors that you stay within the same color family if you are avoiding a specific tone. And remember the advice above regarding dark shades - as you can not lighten the shade by choosing a lighter color.Ingredients:Aqua, Cetearyl Alcohol, Ethanolamine, Polysorbate 80, Propylene Glycol, Isopropyl Stearate, Sodium Lauryl Sulfate, Ceteareth-30, Tetrasodium Edta, Parfum, Limonene, Benzyl Salicylate, Sodium Hydrosulfite, Panicum Miliaceum Extract, Olea Europaea Leaf Extract, Vitis Vinifera Extract, Betula Alba Extract, Calcium Pantothenate, Biotin, May Contain: p-Phenylendiamine, Resorcinol, m-Aminophenol, p-Aminophenol, Hydroquinone, 4-Chlororesorcinol, 1.5 Naphtalenediol, 2-Amino-4-Hydroxyethylaminoanisole-Sulfate, 4-Amino-2-Hydroxytoluene, I-Naphtol, p-Methylaminophenol Sulfate, 2 Methylresorcinol, N-Phenyl p-Phenylenediamine SulfateFixative (Activator): (INCI): Aqua, Hydrogen Peroxide, Stearyl Alcohol, Cetearyl Ethylexanoate, Ceteareth-50, Phosphoric Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Tetrasodium Edta, Sodium Gluceptate, Disodium PyrophosphateOTHER INGREDIENTS: diaminobenzene, resorcin (0.1 to 0.5% per volume), +/- depending on shade (total max 2%), hydrogen peroxide.Restructuring Balm/Soothing Conditioner: (INCI): Aqua, Isopropyl Stearate, Cetearyl Alcohol, Laurdimonium Hydroxypropyl Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Cetrimonium Chloride, Parfum, Citric Acid, Phenoxyethanol, Alpha-Methyl Ionone, Caprylyl Glycol , Panicum Miliaceum, Sorbic Acid, Calcium Pantothenate, BiotinNote for those with Gluten Allergies: The Hair Dye Tint and Fixative DO NOT contain gluten, however the sample conditioner in this kit does. It has better skin permeation than glycerin, and it also gives a pleasant feel with less greasiness than glycerin. Propylene glycol is used as humectants since it absorbs water from the air. It also serves as a solvent for antioxidants and preservatives. In addition, it has preservative properties against bacteria and fungi when used in concentrations of 15% or higher. There is a concern that propylene glycol is an irritant at higher concentrations, though it appears to be quite safe at usage levels less than 5%. The level of Propylene Glycol in SANOTINT is 1.0 % in the Classic and 0.9 % in the Light version. P-Phenylenediamine - SANOTINT Classic, from 0.1 to 1.6 %, depending on the shade. Provides colouring for hair.SANOTINT Light contains 0.0% (none) of the PPD ingredient; therefore it is limited to offering 12 shades only.<,p>EDTA - Organic Extract (ethylendiamine tetra acetic acid) a preservative.Ethanolamine - Organic Extract (not of animal original). An emollient.Glycol - Organic. An emollientHydrogen Peroxide – Chemical: A bleaching and oxidizing agent. Detergent and antiseptic. Generally recognized as a safe preservative, germ killer, and skin bleacher in cosmetics. If used undiluted, it can cause burns of the skin and mucous membranes.Water - Water is an important skin component and is essential for its proper functioning. It is the most common ingredient used in cosmetic formulations and therefore is generally listed first on product labels.Resorcinol – Chemical: In very mild solutions it is used as an antiseptic and as a soothing preparation for itchy skin. In slightly higher concentrations it removes the surface layer of skin (the dry dead cells) and it is used in lotions for irritated skin and particularly in connection with acne. In still higher concentrations it can act as an aggressive surface skin exfoliates. Resorcinol can also be used as a preservative. While it is beneficial skin care ingredient, when used in low concentration, it causes irritation in higher concentrations, with a strong burning sensation and a reddening of the skin. Used in high concentrations as a peel, resorcinol may cause a variety of problems. SANOTINT contains levels of 0.1 to 0.5% per volume and the Light version contains 0.04 to 0.4% per volume.
