It does have a choppy focus ring which can get “stuck” at infinity and require a little more force than normal to get back in range. Autofocus is also challenging, it will not hard stop the motor at infinity and will spin endlessly if you let it seek that far. The lens is great in manual focus mode otherwise. IMPORTANT PART ABOVE! I’ve gotten a lot of excellent insect and product photos with this lens. A few portraits too. Its results are pin sharp and I’ve even gotten decent video with it in recent years. I replaced it with a Tokina and haven’t used it in a while so I’m happy to let it go to a new home or a burgeoning macro photographer’s bag at a discount due to the focus ring issue outlined above.
