Description: Lovely ORIGINAL 1944 WATERCOLOR PAINTING By H.C. Simpson [Herbert Clarke Simpson], 1879-1966This piece is hand signed by the Artist in the lower right corner and dated 1944. In the lower left corner is the title, hand written by the artist- 'New Farm Pk'. This is in New Farm Park, Australia, where the Artist was from.It is a beautiful landscape scene of the Park with a flowering avenue of iconic purple Jacaranda trees along a path, with greenery in the back ground. It is done in watercolor and mounted on the original cardboard backing board. The painting is in EXCELLENT condition and is absolutely free of stray marks, dirt, or damage. The colors are still vivid and you can clearly see each brushstroke. It has not darkened or warped with age.Painting itself measures about 13.5" x 9"/ the matted painting dimensions are about 19.5" x 15.5"Frame size is 22.5" x 18.5"Watercolor on original mat board and matted w original mat. Has been framed with an acid free custom mat on top of the original beige mat to give a 2 toned color mat effect, and framed with a gorgeous and very heavy VINTAGE wood frame with glass. The only minor flaw is one TINY air bubble to original beige mat, very hard to notice, not near artwork, see last pic.The backing of the painting has been covered by a very secure piece of foam board, which is held in with nails. There is a heavy and secure wire grooved picture hook hanger attached to top of back frame, so it is READY TO HANG.Frame is a very pretty grooved and painted wood piece in a tone which matches the inner mat. It has a gently waxed finish and is a VINTAGE frame, I do not know its age. This is a stunning painting and a true Gallery- worthy piece of Art. Wonderful for a collector or Art Lover, would look delightful on any wall. Please see all pics. Any reflections or light spots are merely reflections on the glass, not flaws in the painting. Herbert Clarke Simpson was born in Casino, New South Wales in April 1879 and studied art at the Brisbane Technical College. He became a member of the Queensland Art Society in 1927 and exhibited with them from 1920-34. Simpson mainly painted watercolours in the South East Queensland area, actively painting from about 1899-1956. Most famous are his seascapes of the southern Gold Coast, New Farm Park in Brisbane and the Glass House Mountains. He died in April 1966. Please ask any questions before bidding, I will happily respond. Remember, these are vintage items and will have reasonable signs of age and wear which only adds to their personality, appeal and "funky vintage-ness". They are not in their original boxes unless noted. I do not excessively clean items or remove age patina, as I want to leave that option for the buyer.
