Description: 2 HP 1500 Watt Computer Controlled Servo Motor With external Speed Control Switch. Built to fit Smithy model CB-1220 Number 1- 6 are proven on a CB-1220 as seen in the images. This is # 7. The kit is nearly the same for both the CB-1220 and the AT-300. The main difference is the new stepped pulley we have custom made to fit the belts that Smithy recommends as replacement belts. It is very possible that this new pulley is best for the AT300 as well See images. Make Note:Now comes with a stepped 2 groove belt drive sheave. These are made by us because other brands just did not pass our quality control standards.This pulley can be installed with either the small or large OD pointing outwards. This should give the builder more range to achieve their goal of the perfect spindle range without changing belt position, Just turn the speed control nob. About using this kit on a Smithy CB-1220 lathe combo: We have six customers who have done this. Five stated it bolted on very easily and works really well. There was one who said it did not fit correctly and he had to slot holes etc. In studying the images buyers provided: It looks to fit well. Look closely at image 4. This is our early version. The drive belt rides too deep in an AK type pulley. AK pulleys fit A type belts. Our red AK pulleys also fit automotive 7/16" wide belts. Further research of Smithy to include buying their replacement belts to test resulted in our new design (stepped pulley) and to match the original Smithy pulleys to the pulley on our motor. To me it looks like the AT300 also has metric belts. I have asked a few customers about this. Their reply was it works great with our AK pulley. Still there is always room for improvement. Please contact with information about any improvements you see as making this kit fit better.t Lead time:There is a 3 to 10 day delay added to the ship date. Sold with a custom built matching control unit: This version would screw onto the underside of a cabinet just above the motor area of the smithy. Speed is programmable for any range between 300 to 3,500 RPM. Sold with a custom built speed control switch: This switch allows start up, self diagnostics completion and stop-run in a convenient location of your choice. Just locate a 3.5" X 2" flat surface, clean off all oil and stick the switch there with 2 sided tape. Current motor mount design: Allows for our servo motor to be installed in the original location. Just cut the plate a bit to allow for belt tension and bolt in place (no cutting was required with number 1). See images. Current motor to control unit wiring: All motors sold for this system now have the longer wires between the control unit and the motor (2022 version and later, released Oct 2021). This adds distance to mount the standard plastic housing version control unit further away from the machine. It also eases installation of the custom aluminum housing control unit upgrade. See images for measurements. Note: the maximum distance between control unit and motor is now 28" (was 22"). Custom builds with aluminum control unit require the longer wiring between motor and control unit. Runs on typical 110 to 120 volt AC household power supply's. Motor programming + spindle speeds and Reverse:The motor speed can be programmed to operate in any range chosen by the user. Between 300 and 3,500 RPM's.The full range of speed (RPM's) can also be controlled with just the speed control knob.Speed control programming only requires a few easy steps.Reverse is simple, just hold the yellow button for a few seconds.Programming includes the ability to set bottom and top RPM range separately. In other words you can program the system to run the spindle at any speed or range of speeds you choose (see below). Slowest speed achievable: Motor 300 RPM. (Below 400 is not recommended). Highest speed: 3,500 RPM. Soft start is programmable and will be set as soft as possible when you receive this motor. This program is very effective in reducing drive belt wear etc.Braking strength is also programmable and will be set as low as possible. Personally I wish I could set it lower.Self diagnostics with fault code chart.Safe turn on system where the speed control knob must be in the full counter clockwise (stop) position when turned on. When turned on the self diagnostic system checks for faults and will not allow the motor to turn on until the speed control knob is turned all the way to stop first.Use at your own risk.
