Staffordshire Blue Miniature Toy Plate FRUIT BIRD BUTTERFLY 1840 Childs Pie

Description: Blue Childs Pearlware Miniature Dinner Set Plate ASIATIC BIRDS with FRUIT Charles Meigh Staffordshire England 1850 This is a gorgeous miniature cobalt blue dinner plate dated 1850, originally part of a complete miniature children's dinner service. The tiny round dish measures 3-1/4 inches round with a flat footless bottom and scalloped rim. Clear blue transfer printed decoration finished with pearlware glaze, extremely well potted, to the standards usually only seen in full-size Staffordshire table wares. Decorated with a Romantic Chinoiserie image of Asiatic pheasants or oriental looking birds and a butterfly on tree branches and an abundant bowl of fruit, bordered with contrasting dotted bead border trim. The plate is unmarked except for an impressed letter K. The pattern, sometimes called Asiatic Pheasant, is documented by Doris Lechler as pattern #223. The pattern is also discussed on page 113 in Milbourn's Understanding Miniature British Pottery & Porcelain. The plate is in great condition with no chips, cracks, or repairs. Stilt marks kiln fleck border transfer skip and other typical manufacturing imperfections, original to the making, consistent with age. A delicate little piece to display in the finest dollhouse, a pocket size work of art! Children's soft paste transferware of this quality is quite scarce and highly sought after.
