The myriad colors in this peaceful woodland scene meld and bubble through each other to create a sense of constant change like that which pervades the natural world. As light moves across the window, the river seems to ripple gently, and the leaves to flutter with the passing of a breeze. Stained Glass, an Ancient Art Stained glass was first produced in the late 10th century. Small pieces of glass were attached to one another with lead strips, producing beautiful effects. Clear glass and glass enamels were introduced in the 15th century. Medieval craftsmen began creating complex designs by painting with colored enamels on a single piece of glass. Most earlier enamels were opaque; however, by 1650, Johann Schaper invented transparent enamels which allowed for stained glass to become truly an art of light. Today, the artists of Glassmasters use these same ancient techniques. We maintain a laboratory of more than 600 different hues and are continually creating new ones. Form #WP-0143 (Rev. 2/95) Design and Light Glassmasters artists have an acknowledged international reputation for excellence in design. They create original designs and also reproduce classic stained glass with transparent enamel painting to create new visions for display in light. One of the delights of stained glass art is watching the play of light and changing colors at different times of day. Caring for Your Stained Glass Any irregularities in your work of art from Glassmasters are inherent in the nature of fine stained glass. Streaking, bubbling and striations are characteristic of the hand-roll-ing process used by glass makers in the Middle Ages. After the enamels are applied to the glass, they are kiln-fired to become one with the glass. Because the colors are part of the glass, your Glassmasters stained glass has a lifetime warranty against fading or discoloration. The stained glass may be cleaned with any mild cleaning solution not containing abrasives or acid. Use a soft cloth to dry and polish the sur-face. Glassmasters of The Stained Glass Guild 21 E.
