Description: A visit to the world famous art museums is not a trip that most can take. However, here is an opportunity to walk through the pages of this coffee table book of the artwork on display at the State Tretyakov Gallery. The State Tretyakov Gallery is an art gallery located in Moscow, Russia. It is considered the foremost depository of Russian art in the world. The photography found in the volume is brilliant, detailed and allows you, the reader, to get closer to the treasurers than if you were standing at the museum. Published in 1969 by Kodansha Publishing and printed in Japan, the volume consists of 184 pages . This volume is written in Japanese with each work of art also identified in English. The works are broken down into categories: i.e. Ancient Russian ArtRussian Art – 189th - Early 20th CenturyArt of the Soviet Union The Message is written by Polikarp Lebedev while the Preface is written by Vsevolod Volodarsky. The Explanation of Plates by Vsevoodarsky, Alla Gusarova, Maria Reformatskaya, Lidia Lovleva, Ida Hofman and translated by Nobuyuki Kitagaki. The explanation of plates appears in the Japanese language only. At the conclusion of the book is a list of the plates displayed in the volume which is written in Japanese and English Measuring a generous fourteen by ten inches, each page is suitable for framing (in my opinion). The paper is a heavy gloss paper which shows no changes in color. Other information about this book: The boards are covered in a white leather - or faux leather - that is lettered in a gold writing which shows no signs of wear. The right corners on the front cover have indentations that do not extend to the content pages. The back board has a crushing dent on the lower corner. There is a bubble on the lower portion of the board. The spine is firm and does not move. There is some distortion of the edges of the spine. There is no loose pages, no writing, no stains, The Dust Jacket has damage on the corners and the upper and lower edges are curled inward and worn. The top edge shows foxing, especially at the spine. The clear coating on the dust jacket is breaking away from the paper leaving an "icy" look to the top of the page. The front and the back of the dust jacket have rubbing marks as well as scratches. The back of the jacket has places where the clear coating is loose causing the icy look. The dust jacket has crushing damage to the lower corners . The top of the spine edge is worn. The damage is consistent with age and shelf wear - not misuse. There are 14 volumes in the series and all are available through the ebay store. Shipping can be combined when purchasing more than one volume.
