Description: Stefan Zweig, THE WORLD OF YESTERDAY: AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY. 1943, First American edition and first edition in English. Hardcover. Viking Press. 455 pp. In Good condition. Sound binding; text is clean and unmarked. Light scuffs and stains to the covers; bumping and some minor fraying to the tips; the rear board has a vertical crease down the center; minor foxing to the top edge. This book was printed right in the thick of WW2 and the boards underneath the brown cloth are very thin and soft (hence the crease to the rear board); the paper they used is also pretty thin. Still, this copy is in more than decent shape and is still readable. An important history of the last days of the Austro-Hungarian empire, but also a heartbreaking work, as Zweig and his wife committed suicide the day after he completed the manuscript.
