Description: An unusual and superb antique Georgian gold carved amethyst galleon intaglio seal pendant, dating to the late 18th century. This wonderfully carved small Georgian pendant intaglio seal would most likely have belonged to a late 18th century ship's officer or captain and would have been used to seal their letters. This pendant is a true little gem with a fabulous foil-backed amethyst finely carved with a fantastic sailing galleon complete with sails, rigging and streamers on top of the masts, the carving so detailed even waves under the boat have been depicted. The amethyst is bezel-set with a high bevel edge which allows the stone to sink deeply into the wax, the approximate solid 7k gold setting has lovely floral scrolling decorations leading to a basket, built in bail and hanging bail-a super one of a kind ship pendant! The pendant is unmarked and tests between 6k-8k gold. The pendant measures approximately 26mm x 12mm including the bail. The amethyst measures about 10mm x 8mm. The bail opening is about 6mm. The pendant weighs approximately 3.4 grams. The pendant is in general very good condition with all over wear including a couple of tiny old solder repairs to the gold.
