Description: DIOPTASE on CALCITE: Reneville, Brazaville Dept., Republic of the Congo. Dimensions: 3.1 x 2.1 x 1.3cm, thumbnail/toenail. This is an exceptional and large, doubly terminated Dioptase crystal from the old workings at Reneville in the Congo! It is an intense emerald-green and large crystal from this locality that we rarely see specimens from these days. The main Dioptase crystal is well over an inch in length and is actually one big, beautiful, stout crystal with an another component crystal in subparallel growth. There are several smaller companion crystals from 5 to 8mm in a small group on the right side of the piece for added aesthetics. All of the Dioptase crystals are lustrous, translucent with gemmy areas and have sharp crystal faces and edges. There is a spot of microcrystalline, white Calcite between the Dioptase crystals at the upper right for contrast and then some spongy Calcite matrix on the back. This is a superb, killer thumbnail/toenail Dioptase with absolutely no damage that is both large for the species and for the locality! Buyer pays USPS Priority Mail shipping and any sales tax.
