Tales From Hoffmann 1950 1st leather numbered limited edition ETA short stories

Description: An uncommon lovely leather-bound limited edition of 5 short stories from the canon of leading influential German author, composer, critic and artist ETA Hoffmann (1776 - 1822). This is one of the copies that was reserved for members of The Collector's Book Club. 'Tales from Hoffmann ' published by Theodore Brun Ltd in conjunction with The Bodley Head in London in 1950, 1st edition thus, 8vo hardback (7.5in x 5.25in), 315 pages. B&w illustrations throughout by Gavarni. The limitation page has been hand numbered to show this copy is number 19 of the 200 special limited editions, of which the first 75 were reserved for members of The Collector's Book Club (as per copyright page). Bound in black leather titled in gilt to a green leather label at the spine, in overall very good condition, squarely and tightly bound, top edge gilt, light general wear at spine ends, upper hinge joints and edges, light surface marks/scratches. Internally in very good condition, solid hinges although front is a little cracked, ownership inscription and bookplate of a Thomas K Bainbridge to front endpaper, pages are generally clean and tidy, first and final few pages have a few light spots and a small number towards the rear have a light crease to corner, some light spotting to fore-edge of the text block. Estimated non-UK postage costs by signed for airmail delivery - Europe £13, Japan/Canada £19, Aus/NZ £22, US £23. Additional books can always be added to a combined order for an additional postage cost based on extra 0.25kg bands of weight, with an extra postage cost per extra 0.25kg of £1.20 for Europe / £2.00 everywhere else - please contact if any questions.
