I am very pleased to offer an absolute treasure: Thalatta: Book for the Sea-Side, a very rare collection of sea-themed poetry by the preeminent publisher of the New England literary icons, Ticknor, Reed, and Fields, Boston, in 1853. This volume includes, most notably, a very early publication of Edgar Allan Poe's classic, "Annabel Lee" and the first appearance of a poem by Henry David Thoreau in an anthology, "My Life Is Like a Stroll Upon the Beach" (Ticknor was his publisher at the time.) Other of the many notable poets included in this anthology of 130 poems are: Elizabeth Barrett Browning, (referred to here as "Mrs. Browning"), Robert Browning, Shelley, Tennyson, Whittier, Wordsworth, Coleridge, Byron, Keats, and Longfellow. The book is bound in the signature T&F boards you can find on the original publications of many of the New England literary greats of the period: Thoreau, Longfellow, Emerson, and Hawthorne. The book is in absolutely wonderful condition with but some wear to the head and foot of the spine (please see pics.) Original brick-orange endpapers are accompanied by several pages of ads. There is a period inscription atop the title page. Some pages are still uncut (in those days, books were sold with folded over page edges that the buyer would cut open with a letter opener while reading.) Binding is very tight and square; text is very clean, bright, and crisp. 206 pages.
