The 1930s: #390 JOHN I. "SLUG" BURNS, 1930-1936 St. Louis Browns | 1972 TCMA

Description: For the Baseball Hobbyist The 1930's #390 - John Irving "Slug" BURNS ~ 1930-1946 Philadelphia Athletics from scarce 1972 TCMA set of 504+ cards It seems like only yesterday when little series of 24 cards would arrive in the mail from a company back east with a very long, almost odd sounding name: The Card Memorabilia Associates, Limited. TCMA for short. But, really, it has been more than 35 years and those then easily obtainable cards picturing players of The Thirties are now tough to find. Not rare - just tough; very tough. Each one features a neat little borderless black and white photograph (except for a scant few in blue) with reverse side offering only set title (The 1930's), player name, team affiliation (and year(s)), card number (for most but not all cards) and TCMA copyright. All in a format measuring a shy 2" by 3"*. It should be noted that centering, particularly when viewed from the back, was frequently not true. We believe the more than 500 cards comprising the 1972 TCMA "The 1930s" set represent the largest set devoted to the decade ever issued. Only Megacards' 1991 through 1995 set of more than 1,400 cards comes close and that "set" was issued over a five-year period. Collector Warning! Warning: Do not try to complete a full set of 504+ cards unless you have great patience and much good fortune. TCMA's The 1930's set, as we indicated, may well be the most comprehensive set of cards picturing players of that decade. Do consider picking up a card or two of a favorite ballplayer, cards depicting players from a favorite team or just a sample for your Type card collection. Many of our TCMA The 1930's cards are the only copy in stock; indeed, frequently the only copy available on eBay. *A few dozen cards within the 1972 TCMA The 1930s set were issued in slightly larger 2-1/2" by 3-1/2" size. About the subject: This is just the 4th card (as of 1972) to be issued depicting Al Brancato. Condition: Poor to Fair (severe damage to lower left corner) Shipping OPTIONS are available - YOUR CHOICE of either eBay standard envelope service (ESE) which is cheaper with slower delivery or USPS Ground Advantage (more costly for single cards but much faster delivery). We also offer UNLIMITED singles (up to and including 8X10 inches in size) shipped via Ground Advantage for the one card rate. Both services include insurance but USPS Ground Advantage is considerably quicker, with fewer limitations. _______________________ Important: Shipping Information A goal has always been to keep shipping costs low. Our primary objective is to sell cards and other things of interest to baseball hobbyists - not make money by overcharging on shipping. If you ever believe you are being overcharged on shipping, please email us and we will double-check the facts of the matter. Thank you! For U.S. customers (on most items) we combine multiple items purchased so you pay only the shipping charge on the heaviest item - all other items ship free of charge. (An exception would be if an item must be sent via media/book rate; also, on certain heavier items there may be an extra charge due to increased cost of shipping via Priority Mail instead of First Class.) In order to receive this combined item/one-fee service, PLEASE wait for or request a combined invoice. Otherwise fees accrue which we cannot eliminate. We will ship worldwide: Before buying citizens of all other countries, please email us first for the exact cost. We pack your order carefully - sandwiching cards between cardboard and utilizing boxes, bubble wrap, etc., as necessary - to ensure your items arrive in the condition you expect. Items are shipped the next business day. We ship 5 - usually 6 - days each week. Payment should be made within 7 days after initial purchase on invoice.
