Good condition.( see the photos ) Carefully packed for shipment to the buyer. --------- Historical information : "The Broncho Buster," which was Remington's first sculpture and his first sculpture of a cowboy cast in bronze, was modeled in 1895. He adapted the subject, a cowboy breaking in a rearing horse, from his drawing "Pitching Broncho," which was published in "Harper's Weekly" in 1892.The rough-and-ready drama Remington captured in his paintings carried over to this action sculpture, and the statuette quickly earned appreciation as an iconic cowboy rendering. Before creating his first sculpture , Frederic Remington (1861-1909) drew illustrations for magazines. He drew a picture of a broncobuster trying to tame a wild horse for an 1888 article in Century Magazine. The author of the article was Theodore Roosevelt. Before he served as president (1901-1909), Roosevelt owned a cattle ranch in the Dakota Territory and wrote articles about life in the American West. Remington and Roosevelt became friends at this time. Roosevelt wrote about the life of a broncobuster , saying that he "receives high wages and deserves them, for he follows a most dangerous trade, at which no man can hope to grow old." Remington became well known for his ability to capture the frontier spirit of Americans settling the west. "The Bronco Buster" became the most popular small American bronze sculpture of the 19th century and is still admired today. In 1976 two sisters from Kentucky presented Fredrick Remington's Bronco Buster to the White House, believing its display would "inspire a feeling of strength and determination of the American spirit" characteristic of their father, who was the previous owner. "The Bronco Buster," was a fixture in the Oval Office of the White House from 1976 up to and including the presidency of Donald J. Trump, however it was removed from the Oval Office decorating scheme of President Joseph Biden. Perhaps this great work of American art will be restored to the Oval Office in 2025.
