The pads seem good, they are the copper springy type that the pads are on. I played about 30 seconds of each track on my 8 Track player and both worked in my player. My player is a very nice, clean player though. If your player has worn out heads or is not adjusted right, chances are this will not work right for you, so all of my 8 tracks are SOLD AS IS. I do recommend putting some tape on the underside of the magnetic strip that changes track when it comes around, as the old tapes tend to come apart there quite often, but its up to you.
