Volume with partial fade to back strip, light wear and faint stains to covers, two small spots on top edge stain, touch of soil to fore-edge. Reprint of the 1932 Doubleday Doran edition, evidently published on the same day. About Very Good. Stribling wrote 16 novels and was the first of two Alabama authors to receive the Pulitzer Prize for fiction, the other being Harper Lee in 1961. The Store is the second novel in his pre-Civil War trilogy and is famous for winning the 1933 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, after which the towns of Florence and Tuscumbia banned the book in their libraries for it's upsetting portrayal of their local citizens. Reason enough perhaps, to at least partially account for it being a fairly uncommon title today. Ref. Bruccoli & Clark v. 4, p. 341; Encyclopedia of Alabama.
