Exhibition catalog of 36 portrait prints with accompanying biographical information about the subject and descriptive and contextual information about the illustration (also including technical data, such as title, print medium, print number, date, and bibliographical references). Includes short introductory essays on Sekino's life and art, an essay by Sekino himself about his portrait work, and a selected bibliography. The prints were from Sekino Jun'ichiro's private collection and sent to Eugene for this exhibition at the University of Oregon, being the very first major showing in America of his portrait work, and indeed, the largest portrait exhibition by Sekino anywhere (as of 1977), as even his one-man portrait show in the spring of 1975 in Tokyo only had twenty. The works date from 1946 to 1977. Twenty-seven are woodblock, seven are lithograph, and two are etchings. The subjects are Japanese poets, novelists, bunraku puppeteers, dancers, print artists, a few family members and himself. Sekino Jun'ichiro (1914-1988) was a Japanese woodblock printer and one of the major postwar artists of the sosaku hanga (''creative print'') movement.
