Later generations moved to Colorado, Nevada, and New Mexico where they could homestead and the grass and water was plentiful. A favored expression of Davids grandfather was. "In those times the grass was belly high to a horse." That is the way he would start his History lessons of the times. His Grandfather taught him history that had been passed on to him for generations since he was a child. They came and blended in with the rest of the Caucasian families in every lifestyle and profession. They were always ready to help anyone that needed help and share with the less fortunate. Honesty and hard work was their honor and tradition. When they gave a promise, or made a deal of any kind, the handshake was the seal to the promise. In those days, there were epidemics of yellow fever, small pox and many other diseases. They were devastated to these folks because there was no known cure. Because of these epidemics many families lost mothers, fathers that left the children to be adopted by Basque or Catalan Families, so once adopted the children took the adoptive parents name. This was convenient and they are very clannish.
