Description: the c57 is arguably the most famous steam locomotive built for passenger service in Japanese railroad history.......215 units were built in the years surrounding wwll (1937-1947) by the giants of japanese railway manufacturing - hitachi, kawasaki, and mitsubishi. the "lady", the nickname lovingly bestowed by the japanese because of the locomotive's elegance in operation, had a top speed of 100 kp.......even with the rapid electrification of japan's railway operations and the arrival of the shinkansen, the c57 remained in service until the late 1960s....... i acquired this c57 from a private party (collector) who asserted that he had purchased the item from a brick and mortar shop who performed a test run prior to deal consummation - a frequent purchasing protocol in japan - and who, subsequently, refrained from usage of the model........upon arrival, the model's prisne condition in all aspects seemed to confirm the collector's asseveration; i decided to forego a test run..... tomix's series of steam locomotives - c57s, c61, c55 - are all constructed on the same basic frame and embody the engineering quality associated with the post circa 2010 kato steam locomotives with the aesthetic detailing of microace steam locomotives.......the model has numerous accessory details which require precise assembly from a new owner.......for this model, tomix recommends a minimum 280 degree radius on curved track.....
