Description: Tower of Power Direct LP Sheffield Labs Direct to Disc Ltd Ed 1st Pressing Audiophile RecordingArchival Sleeve Original Insert Amazing Recording with fantastic playing Highly recommend Recorded June 22-24, Sheffield Lab Studios at MGM, Culver City, California Direct is a 1981 live in-studio album by Tower of Power. It was their only album for the direct-to-disc record label Sheffield Lab. It also marked the return of original guitarist Willie James Fulton, not heard from since 1972's Bump City, and the last album to feature saxophonist Lenny Pickett. Mark Sanders plays drums on this album, this would be their last new release until 1987. This album is unbelievable. Might be one of the finest I've ever heard, it's that good. The music moves you but the recording is what makes it special. Possibly my favorite Sheffield Lab direct-to-disc recording! Hard to choose between this, and King James Version. Though I will say this doesn't have as wide a sound stage as KJV. Being that this was multi mic in a studio. Really love the track "You 're Gonna Need Me". But I would say "Squib Cakes" is the real stand out here! Incredibly well recorded, many layers of detail with all the different instruments. As with everything Sheffield Lab, horns sound as real as you are going to get from any recording, period.
