Description: These two birch Bark baskets came to us from a large collection of Alaskan baskets dating to the early 20th c. I am conservatively dating these two to c.1935. They are from the native Athabascan tribe of Alaska's interior. The largest of the two is slightly oval 6" x 6 3/4"" x 3" tall. It is in fine condition with no losses or breaks of any sort. The second is almost round with a diameter of 4 5/8" x 3 1/4" tall. It has some flaking of the outermost layer of the bark but otherwise is in great condition. There is the remains of what I think is a name on the interior that looks like Vuk.. There is an old hang tag in one basket that states: ESKIMO p.65 BIRCH bark reflect Athabascan perhaps.
