Description: Makestuff UMDKV2 Genesis / Megadrive debug and homebrew development tool. Firmware loaded , fully tested w/ a SD card w/ working test roms This auction is for the cartridge and SD card only - No Genesis/PVM Monitor/Laptop Include. For Genesis / Megadrive V2 Consoles Only - UMDKV2 is not certified for use on the original MK1 Genesis HD model. This amazing tool was designed by Chris McCllenand to aid in the development of Sega Genesis / Megadrive homebrew. The project has a very thorough getting started tutorilal here: https://github.com/makestuff/umdkv2/wiki/Getting-Started which explains how to download the binaries and tools to get this working. I've already setup the hardware but host side tools need to be downloaded from this link which include a GCC compiler and modified GDB debugger for remote realtime GDB debugging of real hardware including full instruction trace logging. This system can run your code directly on real hardware either sent directly from USB or loaded off the onboard SD-CARD. The USB upload and run speed is blazing fast , less than 1 second in most cases as this device incorporates high speed SDRAM for your code to run and does not need to write to flash like an Everdrive or equivalent. This is an open source project with project pages found here: https://github.com/makestuff/umdkv2 It was also featured on hackaday.com some time ago: https://hackaday.com/2014/06/18/the-sega-mega-drive-dev-kit/ Some cool Youtube videos demonstrating the unique functionality of this device: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xPK5c4-eEEo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mEH7a-a8dvQ [ Original author's multi-part series ] Although this tool can play commerical Genesis roms that is not it's purpose , if that's what you need buy an Everdrive or flash cart. This is an FPGA based, high speed development system aimed at developers who want to use real hardware for testing code. As such, a prospective buyer should be familar with Genesis SDK's , GDB, GCC, 68K cross-compilers , and all the other tools required to work in a Genesis homebrew environment. The links above explain how to get the development environment setup and these free tools will work in Linux, Windows, and even in the WSL Ubuntu environment which is how I use my umdkv2 setup. As this is a non-commercial open source product and all support has been handled in forums such as: https://gendev.spritesmind.net/forum/viewforum.php?f=20 . I can gurantee that this unit passes all tests with flying colors and can load and play homebrew and commerical titles. There is no guarantee that all commercial titles will work 100% correctly nor is that the purpose of this device.
