Description: UNGER BROS? CHATELAINE STAMP CASE PENDANT LOVE’S DREAM STERLING SILVER ART NOUVEAU RARE! We have a rare stamp case with ring for a chatelaine. The item will come with the 18” sterling neck chain shown. This could also hold small matches. This item is listed on page 120 of the Unger Bros. catalog as style # 9933 under Desk Articles, see images, but this piece doesn’t have full UB markings, just STERLING (image 11) on the interior lip. However there’s there’s no mistaking the obvious quality here. For use on a chatelaine there’s an added ring and a hinge to replace the loose cover, so all the lady of the house needed to do was lift the cover to remove the stamps (or matches) and then snap the cover shut. This could also be used as a watch fob. Condition is wonderful with no obvious dents, dings or scratches. Great patina. Remnants of the original vermeil finish remain and blend beautifully into the loveliest soft gold sheen. Closes with a sharp click. The design is one-sided. The back has an Art Nouveau organic floral design. The design is taken from mythology and features the god Cupid tenderly kissing Psyche to bring her back to life. They are surrounded by heavenly clouds as this is the moment of the actual kiss and Psyche has not yet emerged from her lifeless slumber. She presents passively, while Cupid urgently but tenderly clasps her face in his hand so that his kiss to her lips will be true.
