This issue is the fifth in a five-year series commemorating the 150th anniversary (sesquicentennial) of the war . The pane selvage includes text describing 1865 Civil War events; the two stamps (six copies each) pay tribute to the Battle of Five Forks and the Surrender at the Appomattox Court House on April 9, 1865.
