Description: USAir became a transcontinental airline by adding separate nonstop Boeing 727-200 flights to San Francisco and Los Angeles from its Pittsburgh hub on March 15, 1983. This cover was carried on the inaugural USAir flight from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to Los Angeles, California (where it was backstamped) and is listed in The American Air Mail Catalogue as AL-D43W. The Pittsburgh Postmaster autographed the cover. On February 14, 2013, US Airways Group and AMR Corporation announced that the two companies would merge to form the largest airline in the world. The combined airline carries the American Airlines name.
