Cover franked with a 4 cent flag stamp (FDOI) plus a 3 cent USN stamp from 1946 # 935. Cover prepared on an Archive Quality Envelope with gum on flap. Cover with a DIY matte and 5x7 frame, makes a fine gift! USS Helena a USN light cruiser that was commissioned on Jan 10, 1942. See her web pages for the details of her design, construction and service history. She was was torpedoed in the Dec 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor, but was repaired and modernized in 1942, with anti-aircraft guns added. She fought in the Pacific Theater, and unfortunately was sunk by enemy ship torpedoes in the Battle of Kula Gulf. on 6 July 1943. She earned seven WW II Battle Stars and a Navy Unit Commendation.
