Description: Very Early and Rare Orient and Flume Vase, Blue Shooting Stars, 1973 This is an early example of a handblown vase made by Orient and Flume, Chico, California, in 1973. It's in a shouldered form with a flared neck--slightly rolled into the interior--extending from the top. The design features a ground of milky blue opaque glass, decorated with shooting stars and swirly arabesques, in a subtle opaque white glass with gold colored highlights. Unusual effect, it almost looks like a ceramic piece, rather than glass. A very nice example of an early Orient and Flume work. Dimensions: 8-1/4" high x 6" in diameter (at widest); 3-3/4" in diameter at the rim; the base is 2-3/4" in diameter. This is in excellent original condition, with some oxidation to the glass and a few bubble bursts to the surface (in the making). Inscribed in the pontil: "O&F 1973", with the characteristic ground and polished base and pontil. Note: I had a really difficult time photographing this. The surface gloss made it impossible to eliminate the reflections and separate the colors. The white hotspots and reflections in the photos are from the lights.
