PLOT SUMMARY : Several old college friends converge at a mansion, ostensibly for a pleasant reunion. Larry Dann, the most easygoing of the bunch, comes to the conclusion that all is not well in the old dark house. For one thing, he's run across several people whom he's never met. For another, they all seem to be of a different time and place. The visitors at a rural English mansion become the victims of a horde of bloodthirsty ghosts. They soon want nothing more than to get out of the house. VIEWER COMMENT : "An excellent and atmospheric ghost story. I regard this as one of the best of its genre I have ever seen. I love the atmosphere of it, the English gentlemen going to a luxurious country retreat, and the creepy feel of the place that the film conveys superbly. The music used is highly effective too, especially the scenes where the doll appears. The only scenes I wasn't that keen on were the ones shown in the lunatic asylum. I loved the scenes filmed in the country house with the three friends, from the moment they arrived to the final scenes." BEHIND THE SCENES of Actress Marianne Faithfull : Daughter of Eva, the Baroness Erisso, and Major Glynn Faithfull, a WWII British spy. Recorded the first song written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards, "As Tears Go By" (1964). Involved in a major drug scandal with Jagger, Richards and others, which ultimately turned public opinion favorably towards the 'Rolling Stones' and other rock groups. In the 70's she became addicted to heroin and was homeless in London's Soho district for a couple of years. Recorded numerous albums in the 80's, while struggling with cocaine and alcohol. Has remained sober and productive since. Marianne Faithfull acted in several theater productions before she made her film debut appearance in I'll Never Forget What's'isname (1967). Her character went down in history as the first person to use the F-word in a mainstream film. A year later, she amassed a cult following as the leather-clad motorcyclist in the French film The Girl on a Motorcycle (1968).
