Victor Vasarely is widely accepted as a "grandfather" and leader of the op art movement. In 1927, he abandoned medicine to learn traditional academic painting at the private Podolini-Volkmann Academy. Vasarely became a graphic designer and a poster artist during the 1930s combining patterns and organic images with each other. Utilizing geometric shapes and colorful graphics, the artist created compelling illusions of spatial depth and eventually went on to produce art and sculpture using optical illusion. This scarce LE Artwork was originally purchased by myself in 1996 from the prestigious Circle Fine Art Corporation. The colors are vibrant and pay a modern tribute to the artist’s grand themes of symmetry and illusion.. Additionally, Circle Gallery elaborately custom framed the work in a fine hard wood white lacquer moulding. The actual serigraph is 31¾ by 31½ inches. The visible image size is 26¼ by 26¼ inches (symmetry). Framed measurement is 40 inches by 40 inches.
