Description: Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome . You are looking at a somewhat rare RCA (MI-38263) dynamic Type SK-30 microphone first produced in the early 1960's and manufactured for about 10 years. It has that classic midcentury look and this particular example is set at low impedance. It comes with the 6 inch chrome gooseneck, original cable and Atlas DS-14 desk stand shown. Pic # 2 shows this very model mic on an old RCA data sheet. This model came in both the High Z and Low Z version but this example is set at Low Z. This smaller mic could be mounted on a gooseneck or placed on a mic clip depending on the users needs. These were originally designed as a rugged affordable general purpose microphone. Great for podiums or dispatch work. The Type SK-30 was an all metal microphone with an attractive dark blue / grey paint scheme and chromed front grill. A classier looking mic that is fairly light weight. As you can see this one is screwed onto a short gooseneck giving it extra reach and flexibility. This mic has been tested and has an excellent working element. It's got a strong signal with a low Z setting. The sound is more mid range though. Low Z mics today are very heavy on the bass but these older mics were not like that. They do make these SK-30 models in High Z as well giving it much more of a classic "Rockabilly" sound so if you are looking for that I'll be listing a few Type SK-30 mics in that setting. You'll notice right away that this mic has an original painted finish. This example is quite good though there are noticeable lite scratches on the top portion of the mics head. No dents or fractures however. The front grill looks pretty nice with zero odors or dents. Just lite tarnish. The mic is appx 4 1/2 inches long X 1 1/2 inches wide at the tip. It comes with the older chrome 6 inch gooseneck. The gooseneck is just as nice as the mic and had a rigid fairly design allowing you to bend the mic accordingly. It will give you extra length needed. The cable runs right through the gooseneck. You can always unscrew the gooseneck from the mic but you'll have to take the end connector off the cable to take the gooseneck off completely. It can be done with a soldering gun in about 2 minutes time. The mic has an original 6 foot cable. The cable is still soft and is very pliable. The cable comes with an original female Swithccraft XLR end connector which shows very lite wear. Simply plug this cable into your audio equipment or add a longer male XLR cable as an extension for extra length. The 6 feet will be great for audio equipment that is closer to your mic and stand. It should be noted that the gooseneck can be mounted to any desk or floor stand you have if you don't like the Atlas desk stand. Mic is an easy 7 + on a scale of 1 - 10 in the cosmetic department. MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS PART OF THIS SALE... The stand is a period cast iron design and a very modern looking Atlas DS-14 model for it's time. It's in very nice physical condition. The pads on the bottom of the base are excellent as well. The DS-14 first came out in 1960 and made for a wide stable (lite weight) platform keeping your mic from easily tipping over. It has original black paint and the flexible gooseneck. With the mic and stand this is appx 11 inches tall with the mic raised up completely. A beautiful combo that will look very nice anywhere it's displayed and will make a great broadcasting mic for your HAM radio or dispatch purposes. As with all my vintage microphones... I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. If not...I have a no hassle return policy. The shipping will be on you as I believe that's fair but the original purchase price would be refunded. Simply return in the same nice condition...period. Check my rating.
