Vintage 1980’s Banana Republic G-1 Flight Jacket

Sleeves from top seam to bottom of cuff: 25 inches. Back from top of collar seam to bottom of waistband: 23-1/2 inches. Jacket has a 1950’s Conmar zipper pull with matched goatskin leather pull. Inside size tag reads 42. When I purchased this jacket, it came with no mouton collar. But had these really nice collar snap covers that look like brown buttons. I’m not sure if this is something that Banana Republic included with the jacket back then if you decided to wear the jacket without the mouton collar attached. But it seems like a good idea to keep your neck from chafing with the snaps exposed. It looks as if the founders of Banana Republic (Mel & Patricia Ziegler) sourced very high quality goatskin leather for these jackets back then. They also seemed to want to stick to the MIL-SPEC of the issued military G-1’s of the day. They used goatskins with an incredibly beautiful pebbled grain. And they used one large piece of goatskin for the back per military specs. This is a very nice jacket with no parts missing. The cuffs and waistband have seen better days but they’re intact with no holes, thread pulls and very little pilling. The knits are faded in some areas. I tried to point out one spot on the waistband that is visible but doesn’t take away from the jacket. I do have a mouton collar that I could include with the jacket if you want it when it is purchased. It is from Banana Republic’s later lambskin G-1. You’d have to get replacement snaps to match the ones on the collar. But it is a great light brown pure mouton fur collar that would look great with this dark leather goatskin jacket.
