Description: Here are 4 round dinner plates by Homer Laughlin from the restaurant and hotel line of "Best China" in the extremely rare pattern of "Surf". They have a white glossy background decorated with maroon and grey waves swirling around the narrow rim shape. The backstamp of "JF" identifies production in June of 1969. Each of the solid heavy-gauge plates measures 9" in diameter with 7/8" high sides, and a weight of 1 lb 6.4 oz. Condition is good with no chips, cracks, crazing or discoloration - but lots of scuffs and utensil marks that are mostly clear of the retro pattern. Back in the 1970s Best China patterns were offered by Edward Don & Co. and advertised as "This Best hotel china by Homer Laughlin contains new additives to give it a toughness never before achieved in china. Test after test proved a superiority far beyond any other". The Surf pattern was promoted as "... adds a subtle of warm color to table tops providing an eye-appealing frame for food...create beautiful table top or tray settings".
