Description: Vintage Sterling Silver Stampwork Ponytail Holder by 3rd generation Navajo/Zuni artist Alex Sanchez. This beautiful ponytail holder is one I acquired in the early 2000s as a graduate student on a road trip (I think it was a gallery in Madison, WI). The stamp work is elegant yet stunningly simple and it was created prior to the start of his “Petroglyph Series” jewelry period; I have not found other hair adornment from him. In true AS style this piece is sturdy enough to hold up to wear and time while appealing enough for frequent use. The “no damage” hair elastic is of course, new. Please look at the photos carefully: I intentionally used high resolution and stark lighting so you could see the areas of light tarnishing on the front and interior of the piece but in real life they are hard to actually see. The tarnish is on the edges (which aren’t seen when worn) and I hand buffed the piece several times after photographing it. (And of course keeping it in a zip bag will help keep the tarnish away, too.)
