Description: Vintage 1950's Heywood Wakefield sewing / work table.Very rare, could be 1 of a kind piece! Good condition, some wear on the legs at the bottoms, but overall very presentable. Located in Winnebago,IL 61088 2 hours west of Chicago by Rockford. I had an Antiques expert give me an idea of its origins and she said the following: "You are right this is a tricky example as it is unique and even the book of books does not picture this model. However in my research the answer seems to be (and in my keen eye for the details that this displays) this would seem to come out of the period Haywood Wakefield's Old Colony line of furniture that they made out of these popular maples and other hardwoods and "recreated" what was percieved to be 17th and 18th century designs. As this mushroom shaped knob on this sewing or work table is an early detail along with these stumpy unique legs that are not seen on other streamline styles in their lines. The whole idea of a work table is early yet the eagle mark on the table was not used until 1946 by the company so this places it after the War and the idea was a mix and match approach. The pieces were not built in large lots and were "early American" in concept. They call it an open stock concept too. Regardless there werent many of this particular table made and it doesn't have the number or the details of their product lines. Its fun form Modern yet with "Early American" details makes this a great antique.
